STEPHEN CANTRELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Stephen Cantrell was a 2003 Hirschi High School graduate and swim team member. He was a part of Hirschi’s first ever District Championship team in 2003. He enlisted in the Army in 2007. After a tour of duty in Iraq, Stephen earned his wings as a Black Hawk pilot in 2012. He continued as a pilot through additional tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning multiple awards and decorations. Stephen Travis Cantrell died in a helicopter crash on August 15th, 2017 while serving with the United States Army at Wheeler Air Field in Hawaii.

The WF Swim Teams Booster Club established this scholarship as a means to recognize and support the achievements of a hard-working, community-minded student athlete each year. Our plan is to award at least one $500 scholarship each year to a selected senior swim team member that demonstrates the characteristics that make a WFISD swimmer unique.
Application Process: Fill out Application, obtain 2 letters of recommendation and transcript. All will be evaluated on a point based matrix system taking into consideration the students grades, activities/sports, community involvement and question responses. The top point-scoring students will then be voted on by the scholarship committee.
Scholarship Committee: It will consist of three people, which can be past booster club members, alumni parents or alumni swimmers. One representing each WFISD School. They will be nominated and voted on to that year’s scholarship committee by the current booster club members and parents during a regular meeting. They cannot have a child or sibling currently on a WFISD swim team.
Criteria for Selection:
1. Senior in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Please provide a copy of current transcript with class rank and GPA.
2. Minimum 2 years participation in the WFISD Swim Program
3. Two letters of recommendation from teachers past or present
4. Accepted and planning on attending an institution of higher learning for the Fall Semester following graduation. Includes Colleges, Universities, Technical and Vocational Schools.
5. Parent or Guardian is a current member of the WF Swim Teams Booster Club

Announcement and Distribution of Scholarship: The chosen athlete will be announced at the annual Swim Team Sports Banquet held after the swim season is completed. A check will be presented to the recipient at that time.
